About Ashley
(She/Her)
I believe that you are unique, as are the challenges you are facing. Your struggles are real and the emotions you experience are valid. As a therapist, my intention is to walk alongside you, to help guide you on your desired path. I provide an authentic and safe therapeutic space to support you in achieving your goals and ease any suffering.
Prior to becoming a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Bachelor of Education to fulfil my goal of teaching middle school and high school students. During my experience as a teacher, I became deeply passionate about supporting children and youth outside of the classroom and obtained the necessary qualifications to support students as a guidance counsellor. For the following decade, I experienced such deep fulfilment counselling young people as they navigated challenges and developed their sense of self that I obtained my Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology to become a psychotherapist.
My therapeutic approach is strength-based, client-focused and based in anti-oppressive practice. Our lives can be experienced as stories with different plots, settings, characters and events. Through Narrative Therapy, we explore the story of your life and the meaning you have ascribed to it, while re-authoring parts that are not aligned with your values or authentic sense of self. I also incorporate practical strategies from cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and solution focus therapy. While my work with youth drew me to psychotherapy, I also work with adults and families. I recognize how moving through different life stages can feel both freeing and overwhelming and am here to support you through these transitions.
As someone who is neurodivergent and has multiple exceptionalities, I draw from my own lived experiences to support, empathize and connect with clients struggling with ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities and physical disabilities. I am a firm ally to those exploring gender and sexual orientation. If you feel a lack of acceptance for who you love or feel that your body doesn’t fit you, I would be honoured to support you through your journey towards empowerment and acceptance. I also carry a deep passion for working with individuals struggling with trauma and complex PTSD. Trauma changes one’s body and brain, making it extremely difficult to function. Through therapy, we work to re-map your emotions, brain and body, helping you to connect with yourself and the present moment. Though it takes time, practice and patience, trauma is treatable, and I am here to support you through the process.
Outside of my role as a psychotherapist, I focus on taking care of myself. I practice Ashtanga yoga to maintain my mental and physical well-being, carry a passion for cooking and baking, and adore everything about music – listening to vinyl, singing, playing and attending live shows.
